If you’re in the market for a very nice 3-bedroom home in Clearwater just north of Drew St. on Belcher please do drive-by this home. The address is 2245 Granger Dr. and you can see some great photos and a map to the location here.

Find your evacuation zone before you really need to know

August 24, 2009

hurricaneAs we move deeper into the 2009 hurricane season we all need to be diligent. I’ve posted many articles on CallChrisToday.com about the ways we can be prepared, but this article should prove to be particularly useful. We need to have a plan for evacuation in advance so that when the call comes we’re ready and able to implement the plan safely, quickly and efficiently.

To look up information about your evacuation zone you’ll need to visit the Pinellas County Emergency Management web site. Once there you can plug in your home address and instantly be given vital  information you’re going to need during a required evacuation:

  • Closest Hurricane Shelters
  • Special Needs Shelters
  • Closest Accommodations

The information provided by the Pinellas County Emergency Management site will vary depending on when you run your search.  When we’re not under the threat of a hurricane you’ll see the above three pieces of information, but when a hurricane is coming and Pinellas County has issued an evacuation order, you’ll see some additional information. At that point only the hotels in higher evacuation levels and non-evacuation zones will appear on the web site. So bookmarking the web address is not a bad idea.

I strongly suggest you all find your evacuation zone TODAY or before you really need to know! Hurricane Bill skipped right past us last week, but it is inevitable that we won’t be so lucky one of these times. Be prepared.

Real Estate Woes Around The World: Dubai Edition

August 17, 2009

Dubai is one of the seven emirates and the most populous city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is located along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula. The Dubai Municipality is sometimes called Dubai city to distinguish it from the emirate. Written accounts document the existence of the city for at least 150 years prior to the formation of the UAE.

Eagle Lake Park will NOT be opening early due to budget constraints

August 13, 2009

St. Petersburg Times

LARGO — Pinellas County’s new $23.6 million park will have something for just about everybody: nature trails, ballfields, a dog park, playgrounds, wetlands and citrus groves.

But don’t line up just yet.

While construction of Eagle Lake Park in Largo will be finished five months ahead of schedule, the county says it’s too broke to open it before April.

Officials say it would cost about $96,000 in operational expenses to open the park six months early. It’s money they say they are hard-pressed to find when next year’s budget already required $85 million in cuts.

So the 163-acre park will sit empty, fenced from the public. Read more

How to make a “Tiger Popsicle”

August 8, 2009

No, this doesn’t have a darn thing to do with buying or selling real estate. But being the animal lover that I am I just had to share this video. If you’ve never been to Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida you owe it to yourself to stop by one weekend. They have dozens of big cats, such as cheetahs, lions, leopards, panthers, and tigers in large natural enclosures. All of their animals were rescued from neglect or abuse and have been given a new lease on life.

Smart Car Crash vs. Traditional Small Car Crash

August 2, 2009

This video is worth watching since we’re all starting to see more and more of these little cars on the roads. While smart cars might make economic sense they make little to no safety sense. According to this video the smart car tends to be built much stronger than a traditional small car, but this benefit is quickly countered by the fact that the smart car is simply too small to have enough mass to handle high-speed collisions with enough slow-down time.

A larger car has more forgiveness as it crumples several feet in from the front bumper. A smart car cannot afford to crumple in too far as the passengers legs are only a few feet from the front bumper. The manufacturers built a strong steel cage around the passengers, but all this cage does is protect the car. The passengers suffer a massive deceleration resulting in internal organ injury. There appears to be nothing smart about smart cars other than the fuel economy. But you cannot enjoy the savings if you’re dead.
